HALLOWEEN

Halloween or Halloween (Quebec and New Brunswick custom) is a traditional pagan and folk festival originating from the Anglo-Celtic Islands celebrated on the evening of October 31, the eve of the Christian feast of All Saints' Day.

Its name is a contraction of All Hallows-Even which means the eve of All Hallows' Day in contemporary English and can be translated as "the eve of All Saints" or "the vigil of All Saints".

In spite of its name of Christian and English origin, the vast majority of sources present Halloween as a legacy of the pagan feast of Samain, which was celebrated in early autumn by the Celts as a kind of New Year's Eve celebration.

It is a very popular festival in Ireland, Scotland and Wales where there are many historical testimonies of its existence.

Today this festival is celebrated for its decorations, sweets and tradition.

So prepare your cupboards full of sweets for our young children.

Here are 3 tutos to decorate your garden in just a few minutes:

To decorate a pumpkin

1. Choose your Halloween pumpkin carefully:

Do not confuse pumpkin, pumpkin and pumpkin. The real pumpkin is orange, round, generally weighing 5 kilos with a green stalk. Choose a pumpkin that has a shape that you like, as it will be the head of your lantern.

 2. Cut off the top of the pumpkin :

This stage is reserved for adults, as it is very difficult and the little "monsters" should not cut themselves.

Cut off the top of the pumpkin (where the green stalk is) to make it look like a little hat. This pumpkin hat can be put back on the pumpkin at the end of the activity.

Feel free to save the pumpkin seeds to make toasted pumpkin seeds or to keep them for your next activities with the kids. They make beautiful decorations and embellishments.

3. 3. Remove the flesh of the pumpkin well :

All you have to do is remove the flesh from the inside of your pumpkin. You can use an ice cream spoon, it's efficient but also a big spoon.

Scrape the inside of the pumpkin with the ice cream scoop as if to form ice cream balls. Save and reserve the pumpkin flesh to make a delicious Halloween soup.

4. Draw the face of the Halloween pumpkin :

To manage more easily the cutting of the face, do not hesitate to make a drawing directly on your pumpkin. Here is a mission for children!

Then use a water marker so that your strokes can be easily erased if you don't quite follow the intended cut. Make geometric and straight shapes. Triangles, lightning bolts, pumpkin cutting will be easier!

5. Cut out the face of the lantern :

And here comes the cutting stage! A stage again intended for adults because the skin of the pumpkin is very hard to pierce. Using a sharp knife, follow the contours of the face by following the lines drawn with a marker. Start with the eyes, nose and mouth.

6. Add the candle :

All you have to do is insert a candle inside your pumpkin. Choose a big, tall candle so that it burns brightly every night during Halloween.

To make a spider's web out of yarn.

1. prepare the equipment

Choose the location of the canvas and measure it to find out how much yarn you need. The wider the space, the larger the canvas will be. You can use any colour, but white and silver are traditional.

2. Cut some strings and create the base

Cut two strings. You will form the base of the canvas by positioning one string vertically and the other horizontally so that they cross in the middle. The length of these strings depends on where you will install the canvas. Measure the string according to this location.

  • For example, if you want to hang the canvas between two trees, the space between the trees will define the length of the canvas. If you want to hang it on your front door, the width of the door will determine the limit.
  • You can fix the base of the canvas to the wall with tape or nails.
3. Add wires to the base

Attach a wire in one of the four corners of the X created by the first two. The wire should run from the centre of the X to the outside. Repeat the process with three more strings in the other three corners of the X so that you have a base of eight strings that looks like the spokes of a wheel.

  • Eight shelves should be enough, but you can add more later if needed.
4. Weave the web

Start at the centre (where the threads forming the base meet) and weave strings around the spokes in a spiral pattern. When you meet one of the base threads, tie the spiral string to it with a simple knot to maintain the shape of the fabric.

  • Leave enough space between the different circles of the spiral to reproduce the spaces found in real cobwebs.
  • If a thread runs out, tie it at the base, attach a new thread and continue weaving.
  • Make sure that the strings are taut to prevent the canvas from sagging.
5. Remove any protruding wires

Cut the protruding wires and tighten the loose wires. Make sure the canvas is clean. The cloth is ready when the spiral you weave reaches the end of the strings at the base.

  • If you need to reinforce parts that could be weakened when cutting protruding threads or knots, use hot glue. Not only is it quick to apply, but it is also effective for gluing wood and fabric.
6. Add spiders

. Use store-bought plastic or stuffed spiders or make them out of pipe cleaners or other such items .

Origami bat paper

  1. Cut a 20 x 20 cm square sheet in half to obtain a 20 x 10 cm rectangle.

2. Mark the folds in the upper part: fold the rectangle in half to make a double square. Before unfolding, fold the top square in half by bringing the bottom edge upwards, unfold everything. Turn the work over and mark the folds of the 2 diagonals of the upper square by folding it into a triangle. Unfold and turn over

3. 3. Fold the top square into a double triangle by pressing the horizontal fold in the middle of the square inwards. Turn the work over. Fold in half lengthwise to mark the centre line.

  1. Press both sides of the horizontal fold inwards to obtain a double triangle.

  1. Fold the right side of the upper triangle by folding the right edge of the triangle along the centre line of the triangle. Do the same with the other side.

  1. Fold the tip of the top of the triangle, mark the fold, raise the tip and make an incision on each side along the line to make the ears.

  1. Turn the work over and fold the bat's wings, bringing the right edge down to the bottom of the head and fold the resulting triangle in half. Do the same on the other side then unfold the wings.

  1. Giving shape to the bat, ears, head, wings ...it's finished...
